This is a cross-border cooperation project that combines health, wellness and green infrastructure with the aim of fostering the physical and mental well-being of rural and urban populations. By understanding the benefits of nature for physical, mental and social health, the project aims to promote healthy and active ageing, as well as generational renewal, social inclusion, employment opportunities and the creation of new sources of income.
The WEAL project will affect the territories of three LAGs: Garda e Colli Mantovani, Terre del Po, and Risorsa Lomellina. The main actors involved will be regional parks, social cooperatives, agroforestry companies, social and health facilities, local authorities and the business community.
WEAL is a cross-border cooperation project that combines health, wellness and green infrastructure with the aim of fostering the physical and mental well-being of rural and urban populations.
The objective of the WEAL project is to improve rural quality of life of the three LAGs by integrating into the planning the many benefits of green infrastructure for ecosystem services essential to health and social inclusion (Green Care). On the one hand, the numerous advantages brought by green infrastructure, both from the well-being and economic perspectives, will be analysed. Issues such as recreational, aesthetic and tourism value, stress reduction, active ageing and social agriculture will be involved as well. On the other hand, the project will seek to better understand local dynamics through a comparison with representative realities of Lombardy's lowland and hillside territories. Finally, the project will aim to transfer methodologies and increase capacity building to provide real benefit for the Lombardy community, in addition to drafting and possibly activating payments for ecosystem services (PES).
